An affordable chashaku to get you started in the world of matcha
Matcha was once considered an antidote, and the chashaku was used as a medicinal tool in Japan until the early Kamakura period. However, with the spread of the tea ceremony, it gradually began to be used as a tea utensil, later being called chashaku. The bamboo spoon commonly used today was created by Juko Murata, the founder of wabicha, in the mid-Muromachi period. Lacquer was applied to the bamboo instead of expensive ivory, and it was transformed into a tea spoon while retaining the shape of a medicine spoon. Each chashaku is handmade, and the shape may vary.
